The Greatest Of All Time

In my mind, no human is "the greatest" of all time in any area. God is the greatest. The Most High is the most mighty.

Now that we have that out of the way, we can talk about sports.

Our community is enjoying the 2026 NBA playoffs and, so far, the playoffs have been competitive and exciting. At the time of this writing, only the number one Eastern Conference seed, Detroit Pistons, appear to be in trouble of getting upset by the upstart Orlando Magic.

Sports reporters and sport podcasters seem unable to come up with new storylines so they usually revisit past basketball observations and conclusions.

They love to debate about, "Who is the GOAT?", Michael or LeBron?

They both are! They both were the best players of their era in the sport. Michael Jordon has made more money and LeBron James has played more games and scored more points, for example.

If you don't know, Lucius Gantt covered professional tennis, professional boxing, major league baseball, college football, and NBA basketball for the Associated Press, The Washington Post, The Atlanta Journal and other media companies.

The sports clowns you watch on todays sports shows, couldn't go to sleep and dream about covering sports without a computer, tablet or a telephone. They can't imagine taking dictation from "stringers" all over the world that must be done quickly and correctly.

They can't imagine being told, "Boy go get me a cup of coffee", or "Niggers are not allowed in the press box".

But in the minds of today's sports enthusiasts, today's sports reporters don't know and don't care about the Black sports reporters that paved the way for them.

Anyway, let's get back to the GOAT.

Once upon a time, Black community members love all Black athletes who excalled at their crafts.

We loved Wilt Chamberlin and Bill Russell. We loved Oscar Robertson and Elgin Baylor.

I decided to write this column after sports clowns claim Michael is the GOAT because he, and his teammates, won six championships.

Hmmm? Bill Russell won 11 championships but no one says Bill was the GOAT. Oscar Robertson, pretty much, averaged a triple-double his whole career but nobody refers to Oscar as the GOAT and Wilt scored 100 points in one game and neither Michael or LeBron could go to sleep and dream about scoring 100 points in one game.

The GOAT debate is not worth fighting about. Wemby, the center for the San Antonio Spurs could be great if he stays healthy.

When discussing pro sports, let's just say all of the men and women who are paid pro athletes deserve our love and support.

Understand, in the D'Jango movie, Stephan disrespected, demeaned and talked about Black slaves to impress slaver trader Calvin Candy.

Hankerchief-headed, boot-licking sports reporters do similar things today in real life. The sports reporters who enjoy buck dancing will gladly make up false narratives about one athlete being greater than all others to chase a bag and to kiss a white sports cohost!

The Gantt Report is the GOAT of all opinion columns because of it's professionalism, it's longevity, and it's love for the TRUTH!
